Of such Men, we are in short supply

"If all else fails, I will retreat up the valley of [Tennessee], plant my flag on the Blue Ridge, rally around the Scotch-Irish of that region, and make my last stand for liberty amongst a people who will never submit to tyranny whilst there is a man left to draw a trigger." ~ George Washington at Valley Forge

They say ignorance is bliss. I continue to find that to be true. The more I learn about men like George Washington, the sadder I am when I compare the men of today to the men of yesterday. My grandfather was an Irish Immigrant. He came here with nothing in the 40's. When he died in the 1978 he had 7 homes (he bought the entire block) which he paid for in cash. My Dad often says he'd like to know how grandpa did it.

I can say with certainy, I am not such as these men. Can we raise our children to be such men? Can we ourselves become such men? I hope so.

Yeah, I hear ya'-- my Grandpa had a third grade education and came to Ca. from Kansas at age twelve all by himself. He wound up owning & running his own Aerospace Machine shop, producing jet engine components.

But despite all his aptitude and grit, the "New America's" letigious red tape got the better of him in the end. A car accident in 1968 (which wasn't his fault) injured the other driver pretty badly. When the guy's "loiya" found my Grandpa to have deep pockets, it all went down hill. He lost everything.

He later managed to get a house for the family again but it was soon set upon by the state-- they call it "Immanent Domain" (they put up section 8 housing, that's "crack-houses" to you and me, in the place of our home) but its really just legalized theft. He lost everything he'd built all over again. He never recovered after that. He knew he'd been beat but the thing that kept him down was the knowledge that his storehouses weren't plundered by a foreign power but rather by his own government. He felt an overwhelming sense of betrayal and outrage over that more than anything else. Anytime he worked hard, and gained ground, Ahab & Jezebel took it from him.

His is a sad story but it is nolonger a rare one in the "New America."
